Admissions Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a fee for the Admissions application?

Absolutely not. Plus, it’s easy! Our Admissions Application should only take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Apply Here!

Is there a fee for the Residence Hall Application?

There is a $25 processing fee and a $200 security deposit required when submitting the housing application. Please visit our Residence Life page for more information on housing.

What happens after I apply?

The Admissions Counselors will process and review your application. This process typically takes 3-5 business days. You should receive an acceptance phone call approximately one week after you have received your acceptance letter.

Should I send my SAT/ACT scores to Garrett?

It's your choice. Although SAT/ACT scores are not required for admissions, if your scores meet our criteria, you may be exempt from incoming student placement testing.

What is Accuplacer?

Produced by the College Board, Accuplacer Placement Testing is a series of tests consisting of reading, math and sentence skills. This is an important component in the enrollment process, as it determines whether you will need developmental (pre-college level) coursework classes prior to enrolling in college level courses. What is the FAFSA?

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a form that is completed by parents and students to determine their eligibility for student financial aid. The FAFSA is free for students to submit. Please visit the FAFSA website http://fafsa.ed.gov for more information.

What is a New Student Advising Day (NSAD)?

A New Student Advising Day is a day for students to come to campus to take the Accuplacer test, meet with an Advisor, register for classes and tour the Residence Halls (if applicable). This day was created so that students can essentially get everything done in one day! Students get to meet with staff from Admissions, Residence Life, Advising and Academic Success, Financial Aid, and the Business Office.

Do I need to send my high school transcript to Garrett?

Yes, once you have made the commitment to attend Garrett College, you will need to send your official high school transcript to the Admissions Office. Transcripts need to be in a sealed envelope or received through an accepted electronic transcript service. Final transcripts must have your graduation date listed.

How do I send my Garrett College transcript to other colleges?

You will need to visit our Transcript Request Form page. Your transcripts will be sent from the Records & Registration Office.

I’m currently enrolled at another college, and would like to transfer to Garrett. What is that process like?

After you have applied for admission to Garrett College, you will ask your current college (and any other previous colleges) to send FINAL transcripts directly to Garrett. Garrett's Office of Records & Registration will evaluate your transcripts for potential transfer credits. All transcripts must be received at Garrett before scheduling a New Student Advising Day.

Where is Garrett College located?

Garrett College is located in Garrett County, MD. It is just 3 hours west of the Baltimore/Washington area and 2 hours south of Pittsburgh. It is a 20-minute drive from I-68.
